When things go wrong, you hopefully have a disaster recovery plan in place.
We have seen too many clients lose all of their data due to a crashed hard
drive. With a plan in place, a crashed hard drive is nothing more than a bump
in the road.
Disaster Recovery, as the name implies, is simply recovering from a disaster on your network.
This usually begins with a solid backup strategy. This involves many components including
a tape backup drive, software, tape rotation schedule, and offsite storage. Which drive do you buy?
Can you buy a DDS backup system or should you go with DLT? Are you really going to get 200GB
of storage on a 100GB/200GB drive? Can't you just use the built-in tape backup software
that came with the server? Should I do a full backup everyday, or just a partial?
We are here to answer these questions and put in a solid recovery solution for your business.
Part of that strategy includes having an "online" backup of your data as a backup plan for your
normal tape backup system. We usually add a large capacity external drive to your server
and create a set of backups so that in the case of accidentally deleted files, you could easily
restore the files by just copying it over the network. Restoring files and email from tape
usually requires an onsite visit for us, but using this method, any designated user could
restore the files with ease.
Most clients do not take disaster recovery seriously until they have lost their data.
Once this happens, the importance becomes immediately clear. We would love to meet and discuss
your current backup system with you and offer our recommendations.
